Biomedical Products R&D

Shandong International Biotechnology Park (the Park) is jointly built by Yantai High-tech Zone and Luye Investment Group Ltd. with the support from Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province and Yantai Municipal Government. Composed of R&D section and the living section, the Park covers an area of 1,046 mu, of which, the R&D section covers 566 mu, which will accommodate 300 innovative enterprises and 100 branches or labs of scientific research institutes at home and abroad.

In terms of the operation mode, the park adopts the innovative mode of “Product Development Centered, Market Oriented, Government Support, and Enterprise-style Operation”, takes full advantage of Yantai and Shandong’s advantages in geographic location, resources and industrial base, takes the biological medicine and marine technology as the core, insists on “Big Biology and Big Health” oriented, and adheres to the value of “Integrity, Cooperation, Innovation, and Excellence” to positively establish various innovative Entrepreneurship public technology platform and public service platform, carry out supporting service around the R&D innovation and pilot incubation, optimize the public service system, and strive to promote the R&D and industrialization of high-end industrial projects like biopharmaceutical, marine biopharmaceutical, biological agriculture, and healthcare.

In terms of the positioning, the Park has taken the strategic opportunities in building the Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone and developing the biotechnology industry to build the “National First-Class, International Advanced, Advantage Concentrated, and Feature Highlighted” biological technology innovation base and the national demonstration base to gather domestic and overseas talent. The Park has become the core carrier of “Yantai High-Tech Zone National Torch Plan Marine Organism and Pharmaceutical Featured Industry Base” and one of three major “National Innovative Drugs Incubator Base” of Shandong province, and it is listed as “Shandong First 100 Provincial Strategic Emerging Industry Projects” by Shandong Development and Reform Commission. It also wins many other honors like “China Independent Innovative Park Award” and “2013 China Independent Innovative Park Ecological Civilization Award”.

Since the inception of the park, it has gained positive responses from the industry both home and abroad. Since the groundbreaking ceremony in August 2010, many national or provincial leaders including Jia Qinglin, member of Standing Committees of CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and chairman of CPPCC, and Sang Guowei, vice chairman of Standing Committee of NPC, have visited the Park to guide the work. The Park has signed the admission contracts with many famous organizations, universities and institutes like Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica of China Academy of Sciences, Tongji University, China Pharmaceutical University, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Xiamen University, Institute of Oceanology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Coastal Zone Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences, Ministry of Science and Technology of Medical Research Council of Britain, etc.



At present, more than 40 innovation programs have completed the registration and entered the park, which introduces more than 40 talents in doctor’s degree and more than half of them have overseas education background, including 8 “Mount Tai Scholars” and 17 “Double 100 Plan” talents. Besides, the park has achieved substantial progress in construction, operations, and talent introduction.
